What better way to commemorate the last day of classes than a huge party put on by Brockport Student Government called Brock The Port?

"It's a year-end celebration with fireworks, inflatables, food, games and lots of giveaways," Jeremy Becker, marketing director of BSG, said. "Brock The Port has been a success in the past, and will be even better this year."

The general consensus of answers for the question, "Is Brock The Port fun?" came out incredibly positive.

"Brock The Port is my favorite part of the year," senior Joe Wolcott said. "It's better than Christmas. The whole town is in good spirits during it, and it's just all around fun."

While the majority of freshmen heard about Brock the Port from upperclassmen, many are excited to experience the celebration for the first time.

"Upperclassmen are raving that it's the best day of the year," freshman Brett Jendra said. "I really don't know what it is. I just know that it's a lot of fun."

If getting a caricature, an airbrush trucker hat, a picture frame with the image of you and your friends or playing games like Kan-Jam and Bag-O are not interesting, there are additional activities. There will also be fireworks at 9:30 p.m. BSG is giving like beads, glow necklaces, snap bracelets, T-shirts, backpacks and water bottles.

"I've never gone to Brock The Port before, and I'm really excited about going this year," junior Samantha Miller said. "I've heard everyone talking about Brock The Port and how great it is. I am anxious to see if it will live up to the hype. Sugarcult was a great choice. I am thrilled to see them live for the first time."

Unlike past years, where smaller bands played at the day-long celebration, this year, the well-known band, Sugarcult, will perform. The band formed in 1998 in Santa Barbara, Ca., but hit their peak in 2004. Their most popular songs include, "Bouncing Off the Walls," "She's the Blade" and "Pretty Girl (The Way)."

"I didn't know Sugarcult was playing but now I'm definitely going to see them," freshman Katie Morris said.

Even though Sugarcult was the 11th band students chose for a concert, students are happy with the choice.

"I am excited for Sugarcult to perform," junior Meg McKillip said. "They were a band that we loved in high school, so I'm really hoping to bring one of my best friends up."

A Journey coverband, Separate Ways, is opening at 6 p.m., and Sugarcult will take the stage at 7:30 p.m.

BASC will provide a picnic dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. for a swipe of your ID card. Everything else at the festivity will be free, thanks to the BSG mandatory fee. College Suites and other clubs on campus are putting on some of the stands at Brock-the-Port.

Dippin' Dots, fried dough and Monster enery drinks will also be available for free to students.

Brock The Port is Friday, May 8, at 4 p.m. and ends after the fireworks finish. The Brock the Port event page on Facebook has more than 1,000 confirmed guests.
