Campbell, Brewer like 'Siamese Twins'

Issue date: 5/6/09 Section: Sports
In basketball, there are several kinds of players, which encompass the duo of seniors Brenlyn Campbell and Molly Brewer.
First, there is the quiet player who, instead of jawing off to the opposing team, talks with her game. Without a doubt, Campbell is that player, and has become one of the best players in SUNYAC history.
Then there is the motivator, the player who gets her team electrified off the bench and motivates other athletes to do their best. Brewer is that player, as she was able to carry her team to another SUNYAC championship this year, through her undying leadership and unwillingness to quit.
Both athletes have come a long way from their freshmen years at Medaille College.
The two players began their friendship at Medaille, a few years into their basketball careers. They ran into each other at Medaille and were both unhappy with the college. Kim Schon, a 2008 graduate, approached Brewer and Campbell, and suggested they come to Brockport.
Brewer accepted, and Campbell followed her to Brockport, where they played under coach Michelle Carron for two years. The duo's sophomore year sent them to the ECAC tournament, where each player began to fall into her specific role.
Brewer became the motivator for her teammates, staying vocal on the bench, and Campbell became a consistent starter, becoming a main post player on the Golden Eagles. Campbell's numbers began to speak for themselves, as she scored 11.5 points per game.
The duo's junior year gave both athletes more playing time and more of an opportunity to define themselves on the court. Campbell asserted herself as the top forward on Brockport's roster, averaging 13.4 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Brewer was able to get herself onto the court more, as well, playing in to 29 games, starting five of them and averaging 3.3 rebounds. Campbell scored her career-high 32 points against Emmanuel in the first round of the NCAA tournament that year.
Senior year for Campbell and Brewer brought a new coach, new attitude and a title to defend. Throughout the year, Molly's slogan was, "It's our championship, they have to take it away from us." The senior made sure her team was not going to rest or falter until they were cutting down the nets again in the SUNYAC tournament.
