The annual Brett Favre comeback story has already reared its ugly head, and as sports fans know, that means another summer full of will-he-or-won't-he debates. It was reported last week that the indecisive one requested to be released from the Jets twice. The Jets, probably fearing a comeback from Favre and his $13 million cap hit, granted his release, and inadvertently set off the Favre-to-the-Vikings rumors once again.

In Favre's defense, he and his agent, Buss Cook, said Favre is happy in retirement and has no intention of coming back. But, the Vikings, who are a quarterback shy of being legitimate Super Bowl contenders, added fuel to the fire saying the organization will discuss the free-to-sign-anywhere Favre.

For the Packers, Favre signing with the hated Vikings would be a nightmare. Remember, the Packers put in a provision when they traded Favre to Gang Green. If he was traded to the Vikings, the Jets would owe the Packers three first-round picks. On paper, Favre to the Vikings would be a perfect match, because they would arm him with the weapons to play at a high level.

If the Vikings do their homework on his shoulder, and determine it is healed and ready to withstand another NFL season, they should do whatever it takes to bring Favre to Minnesota.

Have we already seen the best the NBA playoffs have to offer? For sheer drama and competitiveness, it will be hard for any series to match the smorgasbord the Chicago Bulls-Boston Celtics first round offered its viewers.

The series featured everything you would hope to see in playoff basketball: overtime games, game-winning shots, hard fouls and the game never being over until the clock reads double zeros. Every time one of the teams seemed all but finished, they would dig deep and fight back to win the game.

Although Game 7 was anti-climactic, it is hard to imagine another series offering everything that was in play in this series.

Although the MLB season is in its early stages, the pinstripers have to be concerned about their ace C.C. Sabathia. Through his first six starts, Sabathia has failed to live up to the expectations a $161-million salary carries. He has a 4.85 ERA, a 1-3 record and only struck out 24 batters.

I wonder if the complete games and innings logged last year while carrying the brew crew to the playoffs is affecting him this year. Whatever the reason for his struggles, Sabathia needs to turn it around quick because the fans in New York aren't known for their tolerance of sub-par performances from high-priced stars (see A-Roid).

The powers in the NHL must have been doing cartwheels when the Capitals came back to win the final three games to knock off the Rangers. Hockey now has a showdown of their two best players with Alex Ovechkin's Capitals taking on Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins. The NHL is undoubtedly hoping for a seven-game series featuring lots of scoring from the two superstars.
