Ah, spring break is in the air. This week of vacation could not come any sooner. You have been looking forward to hitting the beach and enjoying the sunshine. You started working out regularly at home and want to continue it on your vacation, so what do you do?
It's quite possible that where you're staying has a gym. If this is the case then you are all set, but there is a chance there is nowhere to work out.
I am here to tell you that you can work out anywhere, anytime, anyplace. Going to the beach is great for working outÂ- you can come up with some great beach workouts that will certainly test your stamina and strength.
Throw on your running shoes one morning and hit the beach. You could even try it barefoot. Walking or running on the beach is much tougher than on a flat, hard surface.
As you run, your body works harder to pull your feet out from the sand. As you push off, the sand gives and it takes more muscle to balance yourself and gain momentum to go into a run. You will burn more calories than you normally would and will certainly see how far you have come in your workouts as well as how far you can and would like to go.
A plyometric workout would be great in the sand. You remember jump squats, jumping jacks, mountain climbers, jump lunges, etc. All these moves are difficult on a regular hard surface, but in sand become even more difficult and a better workout than you can imagine.
Why not throw some of these moves in with a walk or a run? It would mix up the normal pace and get your heart pumping even harder.
Vacations are great ways to explore new ways of working out. Many locations will have a variety of activities you can try and equipment you can rent.
Why not rent a kayak for a few hours and hit the water? Kayaking is a great upper body endurance workout. You will work your entire upper body and whittle away your stomach all the while soaking in that magnificent sunshine you have missed so much.
